Like other animals they need to be exposed to another rabid animal in order to become infected. Try to make sure that your pet skunk is not exposed to wild animals that could carry rabies. If your skunk bites someone, it is very likely that the authorities would require the skunk to be put down and a rabies test would have to be to be performed on the skunk.
